Most of us have problems with our necks. It is no wonder since the head is extremely heavy and emotionally, we feel the need to protect it all the while making it work very hard for us. So often we lead with our heads so that instead of sitting evenly and squarely on our shoulders, it is pushed forward. A Reflexologist will often look at the big toe to see if it is curled up at the end since it represents the head and needs to balance the body.
There are many little phrases we use concerning our head "keeping a good, firm head on our shoulders", "keep your head on straight", "hanging your head in shame", "keep your head up high", "heads up", "pig-headed", "swell-headed",and more. We also use phrases like, "pain in the neck", "sticking your neck out", etc. Each of these phrases has an effect on our demeanor and on our posture. Each causes a bit of tension in the neck and shoulders.
Here are some neck release techniques that are simple yet powerful.
Turn your head one way, then the other. Which way causes the most discomfort? Turn your head in that direction but not far enough to cause pain. Put your opposite hand on that shoulder and gently squeeze it about 4-7 times. Now with your hand (the hand on the same side as your head is turned) pretend to unroll the curled part of the edge of your ear. Just use your thumb and index finger to "uncurl" the rim of your ear. Do this at least 3 or 4 times. Then bring your head back to the front and then turn it again and notice the release in your neck. Most often it eliminates pain in the neck and shoulders and can often offset a threatening headache. Now turn your head to the other side and repeat. You can do this to yourself or to someone else.
Try it now. It is amazing and simple!!!
