“BACH TALK”

When you are needing attitude adjustment, or are feeling not quite at one with life around you, Bach Flower Remedies are a swift and miraculous way to effect a change.

Physical illness is body language to tell you that you are out of balance in your personal vibration. These remedies work on a subtle level and are, quite simply, bottled flower vibrations. Each of the 38 Bach Flower Essences corresponds to a soul quality or virtue.

If you are out of balance, taking two drops of the correct essence or essences, in a glass of water, four times a day can bring about an energy shift. The remedies can be used to help you with a mood adjustment, prevent psychological or physical illness or as support to ongoing medical treatment.

The remedies are made up of the healing property of the flowers, sun-energized water and a bit of brandy, for preservative. When two drops are added to a glass of water, the alcohol content is not measurable. The drops are not habit forming. They are compatible with any other type of medicines, herbs or treatments and, even if you drank the entire bottle, you couldn't overdose. They are safe for any age group, even during pregnancy. If a wrong remedy is chosen, it will not harm you.

When you are ill, the illness is not important to the Bach practitioner, but rather, how are you handling your illness? Four people who have the same illness, all react differently - one might be resentful, one might be resigned to her fate, one might be scared for herself and one might be more concerned over how his family will be able to deal with it. The remedies are individually chosen for each person. There are five remedies just for fear! There is only one combination remedy - Rescue Remedy®. That is the spotlight for today.

The remedies don't change life situations, just our attitudes and perceptions of them. Whether you are ill or just out of sorts they can be beneficial. They work as catalysts for our own healing. Bach Flower Remedies are vitamins for the soul!

The Bach Flower Remedies are a set of 38 flower essences. Each one corresponds to and balances a certain emotional state. They are easy to take - two drops of the correct essence or essences, in a glass of water, or under the tongue, four times a day can bring about an energy shift. These drops are not medicinal. They work on an emotional level bringing us back into balance emotionally.

The remedies are made from the healing properties of 37 wild flowers and tree blossoms, the 38th from the water of a spring with natural healing properties.

RESCUE REMEDY®
Rescue Remedy® is the most popular and certainly the best-known Bach Flower remedy in North America (and probably in many other parts of the world). It is just what it s name implies – a first aid solution to take care of the immediate moment. It is not a single remedy, but a combination of five:

Clematis – to keep you focused, or for unconsciousness, dizziness or faintness
Impatiens – to help you remain patient to counteract irritability, nervousness, and tension
Rock Rose – for courage in the face of terror and panic
Cherry Plum – to help you feel in control when you fear losing control
Star of Bethlehem – to dissipate the effects of shock, trauma, and numbness

RESCUE REMEDY®
Rescue Remedy® can be useful in all kinds of situations – from the mildly annoying - traffic jam, pre-exam jitters or skinned knee for an active 6 year old to the devastating – such as the death of someone close or fear of flying. Dosage is 4 drops straight from the dropper (under the tongue), in water or other liquid, on the pulse points or in a spray spritzer. I always have Rescue RemedyÒ handy – in my purse, pocket or car – you never know when you’re going to need it! The kids have it in their emergency kits at school. I have used it with a dog who was terrified of fircrackers and a horse who was skittish. With animals, I tend to use it in a spritzer bottle, in their water or on their fur.

Rescue Cream is a blend of the same 5 remedies as Rescue Remedy® with the addition of Crab Apple, for it’s cleansing properties. Use it for bruises, burns, rashes, eczema, diaper rash, insect bites, hemorrhoids. (no animal fat used).

RESCUE REMEDY® IN ACTION
I was packing up my things after teaching a course and just clipping the bungee cord to the underside of my rolling cart when I accidentally let go of the hook. Because I was carefully watching what I was doing – the end of the bungee flew up and hit me in the eye. I must have been blinking because it struck my closed eye. I was in shock. It really hurt!

All I could think of was to find the Rescue Remedy® Cream that I had packed carefully away. I grabbed the liquid Rescue Remedy® from my purse and took four drops. This calmed me down enough to remember where I put my Rescue Cream. I tentatively opened my eye – everything was black. As I put cream over my eyelid, I had the thought that I didn’t want to
put cream on my eyebrow because it would look stupid (a Crab Apple moment - for feelings of shame, uncleanliness, or a poor self-image).

By the time I got home, I was able to see out of the eye – around a big green ring. I continued to put the cream on every hour (avoiding the eyebrow) and by the next morning, my vision was clear. I had no black eye and my only reminder was a bruise along my eyebrow, which stayed for a few days (the price we pay for vanity!)

I learned two things from the experience – clip bungee cords from the bottom to the top and always have Rescue Remedy® close by.

I've used Rescue Essence for traumas and for the trite – for physical injuries, fear-related insomnia, preceding a visit to the dentist, before appearing for jury duty, and when you are having computer problems with crashes and fears of losing files. People I know have taken it before and after surgery, during labor and after childbirth.

Rescue Remedy® can be very helpful for animals in cases of physical or emotional trauma. I've used it with birds who flew into a glass window or door, putting a few drops on or into the beak, often creating an immediate recovery. For animals up to human size put four drops in the drinking water. For larger animals increase the dosage to ten drops in a bucket of water. Cats, in particular, sometimes don't like the smell or taste of alcohol. Rub the Rescue Essence behind their ears; they'll hate it, but it's good for them. It's also good for plants when you repot them, or if they are looking unhappy.

Although it is no substitute for medical treatment, it helps to alleviate the mental and emotional stresses, which can worsen a medical emergency.
How to Take It
If you feel that you need a mixture with two or more of the remedies you would find in the Rescue RemedyÒ it makes more sense to use Rescue Remedy® itself in your mixture. It counts as one remedy, so if you are using it with other remedies, add four drops to your mixture instead of the usual two.

In an immediate crisis you can take it directly from the bottle, four drops at a time, as often as needed, or put the four drops in a glass of water and sip it often. Don’t worry about whether you have eaten or not, or taken other medication – there are no contraindications. If you prefer not to take it internally you can put it on pulse points, such as the temples and wrists.

Above all, don't be limited by my suggestions. The uses of Rescue Remedy® are virtually limitless. As you can see from the descriptions, there are various facets to each remedy and its purpose in the first aid function.

Clematis For those who withdraw into fantasy worlds. They are ungrounded and indifferent to the details of everyday life. Teaches one to establish a bridge between the physical world and the world of ideas; may foster great creativity.
Impatiens: For those who act and think quickly, and have no patience for what they see as the slowness of others. They often prefer to work alone. Teaches empathy and understanding of and patience with others.
Rock Rose: For situations in which one experiences panic or terror, a psychic state of emergency. It replaces terror with the emotion which is needed in an emergency situation: courage.
Cherry Plum: For those who fear losing control of their thoughts and actions and doing things they know are bad for them or which they consider wrong. Teaches trust in one's spontaneous wisdom and the courage to follow one's path.
Star of Bethlehem: For trauma and shock, whether experienced recently or in the past. Teaches the ability to recover from traumas and to integrate them into the present life.

I am available for consultations as well as classes. I am available to travel to your city. Please get in touch – I would love to talk with you about the remedies.
