Yvette Eastman: Introduction
I
am so fortunate; my work is my passion. At 71 years young, I can fill students
in a classroom with a desire to learn, to change, to innovate. A born rebel,
I teach just as I live, showing you how to help people with Reflexology
and Kinesiology, while demonstrating how to synthesize all that you learn
with all that you already know. "Although I am teaching you the Touchpoint
way, I hope that when I meet you 10 years from now, I won't recognize your
work as mine. You have got to claim it and call it your own!"
Background
Born in Belgium, I was raised in New York City, and moved to Vancouver, Canada. I started my reflexology career in 1974, spurred on when my son, Chris, was diagnosed with 85% hearing loss and the doctors suggested surgery as the only recourse. In my heart I knew there was another way. Although I was initially skeptical, I turned to reflexology, as I preferred this less invasive way to work with him. Three weeks later, Chris began to hear.
I needed no further proof; I quickly learned Reflexology. I knew there was more to learn. I followed those studies with Touch For Health and a multitude of other helping and healing modalities. Using what I had learned, I incorporated my own methods on both of my children. A year later, Chris was able to hear flawlessly, and now he has excellent hearing, perfect pitch. During the same time, my daughter, Samantha, was supposed to begin wearing a brace to correct scoliosis. Sam’s back straightened and she was never fitted for a brace.
I found my niche, incorporating my education as a psychologist, with a
variety of hands-on methodologies. Since then I have developed my own modalities
using meridians and chakras on the feet, energy work on the ears, and my
most exciting, Pawspoint Reflexology for Animals. My aim has always been
to help others to help themselves.
What is my greatest achievement?
I dared to begin! When I opened Touchpoint Reflexology*Kinesthetics, over 35 years ago, no one knew what Reflexology was, or how it helped a person to regain health. I educated people. I talked to everyone and taught classes everywhere. I still do. I love reaching out to people, laughing and touching on many levels. I delight in showing them that their feet and hands even ears are beautiful, that they have such a special purpose in relieving stress and pain.
What was my biggest obstacle?
My challenge was to coordinate my unconventional work with conventional health practices, cooperating in a good working relationship with the medical field, while retaining credibility. Many of my former students work in the Greater Vancouver hospitals performing reflexology on the hospital staff. Doctors, nurses, and aides spend lunch hour receiving a session. I have given many presentations and demonstrations to the corporate world. Companies are always looking for ways to de-stress their staff.
What makes me proudest?
The worldwide recognition I have attained through my book and video, “Touchpoint Reflexology, The First Steps”, and my teaching across Canada, and the U.S., have given me a reputation as a phenomenal practitioner and teacher of Reflexology. Now, with my website, people across the entire globe ask my opinion! I now have 10 books to my credit! The newest, about to be published is “Around the World With Reflexology - The Different Forms of Reflexology and How It Is Evolving”. The most exciting event this year was an invitation to participate in the conference of the International Council of Reflexologists in Anaheim, CA. I presented Pawspoint for Animals. I was overwhelmed by the many people who enjoyed the presentation even when they had no interest in animals!I was overjoyed to spend time with so many phenomenal reflexologists.
What’s in my future?
I have continued to be a highly successful practitioner of Reflexology, Specialized Kinesiology and Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) Quantum Touch and more. I plan to continue teaching and practicing, and taking more classes in the newest modalities. I shall continue innovating new approaches and writing books to present them. In the past 35 years as a Reflexologist, I have seen so many miracles, and helped scores of people relieve pain and return to living full and active lives. I do not see retirement in my future!
